Please note that each workplace has its own policies and procedures for cash
handling, and for preventing and reporting workplace violence. See, for example,
State Transit Authority Bus Operators Handbook, or RailCorp Policies and
Procedures for details of specific procedures.
Bus operators, for example, should complete a Transport Safety Incident
Report (TSIR – Form 058) whenever an incident occurs that threatens safety,
or whenever anti-social behaviour is witnessed. These do not, however, replace
or substitute for an injury report or notification to police.
Employee on duty at the time of the incident
Make sure you receive prompt medical attention if injured. Notify a supervisor
or co-worker
• Check to see if you are suffering the symptoms of postraumatic stress. These
include increased heart rate, insomnia, muscle tension, hypersensitivity, fear
of returning to work, depression, grief, guilt and anxiety
• Notify emergency services: Police, Ambulance. (See ‘reporting a crime’,
below)
• Notify your supervisor; or employer if they are not on site
• Write down the time and details
• Notify your employers’ insurer (see making a workers compensation claim
below)
