publication or the department’s website for degree specific admission deadlines.<br />

Admission Requirement<br />

A. Undergraduate degree GPA (or equivalent) requirements:<br />

1. A 3.0 CGPA (out of 4.0 point scale or its established equivalent) is required for admission<br />

to graduate programs.<br />

2. Probationary admittance may be granted to:<br />

a. A student <strong>with</strong> CGPA of 2.5 or higher and a TOEFL score of 530, or its equivalent using<br />

a standardized test approved by Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research<br />

(MHESR), may be provisionally admitted to a Master’s program if:<br />

The student achieves a TOEFL score of 550 by the end of the first semester.<br />

The student takes maximum of six (6) credit hours in the first semester during which<br />

they also take intensive English whereby they must achieve an average score of B in the<br />

credit courses taken.<br />

If either provision is not met, the student is dismissed.<br />

b. A student <strong>with</strong> a CGPA between 2.5 and 2.99 and a TOEFL score of 550, or its<br />

equivalent using a standardized test approved by MHESR, can take a maximum of 9 credit<br />

hours in the first semester. He/she must achieve a semester average score of B in the credit<br />

courses taken to continue in the program. If not, the student is dismissed.<br />

B. English Proficiency Requirement:<br />

A TOEFL score of 550, IELTS score of 6.0, or the equivalent of another standardized test approved<br />

by the MHESR is required of all students admitted to a Master’s program <strong>with</strong> the following<br />

exceptions:<br />

1. A native speaker of English who has completed his/her undergraduate education in an<br />

English medium institution in a country where English is the official language.<br />

2. A student admitted to and graduated from an English medium institution that can provide<br />

evidence of acquiring a TOEFL score of 500, or its standardized equivalent approved by the<br />

MHESR, upon admission to the undergraduate program.<br />

Admission Procedure<br />

An individual who wishes to apply for admission to graduate study and who possesses appropriate<br />

qualification as described above can access information and application materials and apply online on<br />

the <strong>ALHOSN</strong> <strong>University</strong> website at http://www.alhosnu.ae. An applicant can also request for an<br />

application packet by e-mail (info@alhosnu.ae), telephone (+971 2 4070700) or fax (+971 2 4070799).<br />

Student applicants must complete the application forms and make sure that such forms and all other<br />

required items as stated below reach the Admissions and Registration Office by the stipulated<br />

deadlines:<br />

1. Completed Application Form<br />

2. Non-refundable Application Fee<br />

3. Statement of Purpose<br />

4. Three Letters of Recommendation<br />

5. Official Academic Records (transcript from each university/college attended)<br />

6. A copy of the applicant’s passport valid for a minimum period of six months.<br />

7. Six recent passport-size photographs.<br />

8. Evidence of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 550 (paperbased)<br />

or 231 (computer-based), or IELTS bandscore of 6. (Applicants who do not meet the<br />

language requirement shall be required to pay AED250 to take <strong>ALHOSN</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s English<br />

Placement Test.<br />
