Transfer Credit Policy<br />

1. Transfer students must meet the basic admission requirements of <strong>ALHOSN</strong>.<br />

2. Students who present official transcripts of college-level credit from UAE (MoHESR)<br />

accredited institutions may receive transfer credits toward a degree to the extent that:<br />

a. The grades are equivalent to a minimum average of C (2.0).<br />

b. The subjects are similar in content to the requirements for the specific degree at<br />

<strong>ALHOSN</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

c. The CGPA is a minimum of 2.0.<br />

d. The total number of credit hours transferred must not exceed 50 % of the total credit<br />

hours required for completion of that specific degree.<br />

e. Upper division courses, specifically 3rd and 4th year courses, major or area of<br />

concentration courses and capstone courses must be taken at <strong>ALHOSN</strong>. However, in case<br />

of a student who completed some courses in the 3rd and 4th year in another institution,<br />

<strong>ALHOSN</strong> will accept only the equivalent of 9 to 12 credit hour courses from these years.<br />

3. The total number of credit hours of accepted college-level work will be entered on the<br />

student’s permanent academic record; however, the transfer credit hours will not be included in<br />

the cumulative grade point average reflected on the transcript of the academic record.<br />

4. Students will be informed of their transferable credits prior to their admission. The final<br />

decision is subject to the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.<br />

5. Students must be enrolled as degree candidates at <strong>ALHOSN</strong> in order to have the number<br />

of transfer credits added to their <strong>ALHOSN</strong> Permanent Record.<br />

6. Required Assessment and Remediation for Transfer: Students transferring to <strong>ALHOSN</strong> <strong>with</strong><br />

less than 61 semester hours must meet the requirements of the <strong>ALHOSN</strong>’s Assessment of<br />

English.<br />

7. Specified <strong>ALHOSN</strong> degree requirements must all be met before obtaining a bachelor’s degree.<br />

Other Applicants Categories<br />

Transient Students<br />

Transient (temporary) students are those who are actively enrolled in other institutions of higher<br />

learning and wish to enroll for a session at <strong>ALHOSN</strong>. Transient students wishing to continue at<br />

<strong>ALHOSN</strong> for more than one academic session should follow the procedures for admission of transfer<br />

students.<br />

Non-Degree Students<br />

Individuals who wish to pursue courses of special interest <strong>with</strong>out submitting academic credentials may<br />

register for a maximum of six hours per semester (or 3 per summer term), accumulating up to 12<br />

semester hours of undergraduate non- degree credit. Thereafter, non-degree students must comply<br />

<strong>with</strong> university admission requirements.<br />

CAUTION: Non-degree students should not enroll in courses that are required in the general<br />

education program. Courses taken for non-degree credit are not applicable toward a degree unless<br />

validated later by the student’s meeting all conditions of admission to the university, including<br />

remediation requirements.<br />

Non-degree students are required to submit all admission credentials listed under “Admission<br />

Procedure”. Non-degree students are required to meet the same course prerequisites as degree students.<br />

Re-admission Procedure<br />

Students who were previously enrolled as degree candidates at <strong>ALHOSN</strong> <strong>University</strong> and are eligible to<br />

return to the <strong>University</strong> can register for classes at the Admission and Registration Office. Registration<br />

must be completed by the end of the first day of classes.<br />

Former students who were suspended or dismissed for academic or disciplinary reasons must file an<br />

application for re-enrollment at the Admissions and Registration Office. Applications should be filed at<br />

least one month prior to the beginning of a semester or term. Students who earn credits at other<br />
