HRM 451 Employee Staffing and Development (3 = 3 + 0) (Tentative)<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 304<br />

This course is designed to introduce undergraduate business students to theories, research, and practice in<br />

recruiting, selecting, and training/developing individuals for employment in business and public organizations.<br />

The course covers staffing and development issues in the following areas: staffing strategy, legal environment,<br />

recruitment, predictor measurement and decision making, job analysis, selection tools, criterion measurement, and<br />

training design, implementation, transfer, and evaluation.<br />

HRM 452 Performance Appraisal and Rewards Systems (3 = 3 + 0) (Tentative)<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 304<br />

This course will cover theories underpinning performance management and studies of performance appraisal, pay<br />

policies, promotion systems and non-pay rewards. It will also include skill development in core techniques such as<br />

job evaluation and performance appraisal design. A survey of policies and practices of performance and reward<br />

systems in UAE organizations will also be covered.<br />

HRM 453 Employment Law and Employee Relations (3 = 3 + 0) (Tentative)<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 304<br />

This course will expose students to various aspects of the laws and regulations that govern human resources<br />

management in United Arab Emirates. These aspects include employment law, employee relations, benefits and<br />

compensations, industrial safety and health, termination and other labor legislatives as mandated by the<br />

government. It will, equip students <strong>with</strong> in-depth knowledge of the legislative issues, <strong>with</strong> an emphasis on<br />

preparing them for to be competent in the labor regulations.<br />

HRM 454 Strategic Human Resource Management (3 = 3 + 0) (Tentative)<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 304, MGT 401<br />

This course analyzes how human resource management might aid in developing competitive advantage and what<br />

might be done to fulfill this potential. Emphasis is on the processes and activities used to formulate HR objectives,<br />

practices, and policies to meet the short-range and long-range organizational needs and opportunities, to guide<br />

and lead the change process, and to evaluate the contributions of human resources to organizational<br />

effectiveness. The course shall attempt to examine the context while developing a framework for the practice of<br />

strategic HR and their implementation in a few traditional functional areas of HR like staffing, performance<br />

management, compensation, etc.<br />

HRM 455 Organizational Development and Transformation (3 = 3 + 0) (Tentative)<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 304<br />

Organizational development (OD) is a systematic process of data collection, diagnosis, action planning,<br />

intervention, and evaluation aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the organization and developing the<br />

potential of all individuals. The goal of this course is to identify and diagnose organizational problems and<br />

opportunities and apply management principles to support organizational change in general as well as those which<br />

are contextually specific to organizations in UAE and the Middle East. The course examines the organization<br />

development process, including intervention strategies, and the role of organization development in creating the<br />

changes that improve individuals, teams, and organizations.<br />

HRM 456 International Human Resource Management (3 = 3 + 0) (Tentative)<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 303, MGT 304<br />

This course provides an introduction to the critical issues facing organizations in simultaneously managing their<br />

human resources at home and abroad. It focuses on the connection between corporate strategies and the effective<br />

management of human resources, which at times, may require differing policies across countries. The course is<br />

based on the notion that competitive firms and economies require appropriate structures, policies, and strategies<br />

for managing their employees at every level of the enterprise. This is particularly true of multinational enterprises<br />

(MNEs) and transnational corporations (TCs) intricately involved in a global environment.<br />

HRM 457 Special Topics in Human Resource Management (3 = 3 + 0) (Tentative)<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 304<br />

This course shall provide critical analysis of current trends in human resource management theory, research, and<br />

practice. Emphasis shall also be on the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of contemporary human resource<br />

management issues <strong>with</strong> specific reference to UAE and GCC countries. The syllabus will be prepared and must be<br />

approved by the Chair of the Department.<br />
