Overview<br />

<strong>ALHOSN</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s four-year Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (BBA in<br />

Accounting) is an integrated, multidisciplinary degree program <strong>with</strong> an emphasis in accounting.<br />

Compared to other undergraduate business accounting programs which emphasize a high level of<br />

specialization in accounting specific courses, this program is unique in that its principal strength is its<br />

combination of business, liberal arts and social science courses. As such the focus of this program is to<br />

develop business leaders and managers having well-balanced personality, strong business acumen and<br />

comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory and practice, sensitive to diverse cultural values, amidst<br />

the challenges and advancement in the global business.<br />

Goals<br />

The main goal of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (BBA - Accounting)<br />

program is to develop students’ general business management knowledge and skills. This program<br />

enables students to think critically and strategically and to develop their analytical skills. More<br />

specifically, it aims to develop students’ interpersonal and leadership skills. This is achieved by<br />

providing students <strong>with</strong> accounting knowledge in quantitative, analytical and communication skills,<br />

while grounding students in applied theory and practice across the major accounting and business<br />

management disciplines.<br />

Objectives<br />

Specifically the BBA-Accounting program seeks to:<br />

1. Equip students <strong>with</strong> skills and competencies in the core functional areas of Accounting.<br />

2. Provide students <strong>with</strong> the fundamental concepts and theory of business practice in the major<br />

functional areas and the understanding of the interrelationships among them.<br />

3. Provide students the opportunities to develop their critical and strategic thinking skills.<br />

4. Enhance student skills in using the library and computer resources both to gather and present<br />

business and accounting information.<br />

5. Develop students <strong>with</strong> the ability to source, analyze, compare, and interpret facts and figures.<br />

6. Develop students <strong>with</strong> the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in<br />

professional business situations.<br />

7. Develop students <strong>with</strong> the ability to interact appropriately and effectively <strong>with</strong> others in<br />

business settings.<br />

8. Develop students <strong>with</strong> the basic but comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory and<br />

practice in a curriculum consistent <strong>with</strong> the standards and appropriate for entry level<br />

accounting positions at the bachelor degree level or preparation for graduate studies in<br />

accounting and related disciplines.<br />

Outcomes<br />

Upon completion of the BBA-Accounting program, students should be able to:<br />

a. Demonstrate knowledge of the business management theories and concepts which underpin<br />

many business decisions and practices;<br />

b. Identify the various components and processes that make up the fundamental accounting<br />

knowledge relating to financial statement preparation and analysis, management decision<br />

making, internal controls and business processes, and principles of income taxation;<br />

c. Apply critical knowledge in accounting discipline to solve accounting-related business problem<br />

using appropriate methodologies and tools;<br />
