MGT 611 Managing Human Resources<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 601<br />

This course will examine Human Resources from a strategic perspective, emphasizing the contribution of HR<br />

decisions to the development of a high performance organization. HRM will be treated as a dynamic system that<br />

enables organizations to cope more quickly and effectively <strong>with</strong> a rapidly changing environment. The course will<br />

emphasize those topics, such as reward systems, performance management and the selection and retention of high<br />

performance employees, which confront managers in a variety of organizational roles. Emphasis will be given to<br />

the identification, evaluation and solution of specific HR problems facing managers <strong>with</strong> these responsibilities.<br />

MGT 612 Technology Management<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 601<br />

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to technology and innovation management, and identifies the<br />

management skills, corporation flexibility, culture, competencies and resources required to respond to radical<br />

technical change in the global marketplace. The course focuses on managing innovation process, producing<br />

streams of marketable products and services, and management of new and existing technology. In addition, this<br />

course bridges the gap between business strategy and technology, illustrating how the two functions intertwine<br />

while driving change through technology and innovation. The approach taken in this course is applicable no<br />

matter what the educational background of the student, providing practical insight into the management of<br />

technology and innovation.<br />

MGT 613 <strong>Global</strong> Strategic Management<br />

Prerequisite: FIN 601 and MKT 601<br />

The course focuses on building management skills needed to develop strategies, design organizations, and manage<br />

the operations of companies whose activities span national boundaries. This course should be of interest if<br />

you expect to be involved in managing or advising companies that either compete internationally or face<br />

international competitors in their home markets. The course draws on a combination of lectures, cases, and<br />

conceptual readings.<br />

MGT 652 Entrepreneurship<br />

Prerequisite: FIN 501 and MKT 501<br />

The purpose of this course is to help students learn how to start and run a successful business so that they can<br />

utilize their gifts and talents, become financially independent, and contribute to society. Four domains associated<br />

<strong>with</strong> the topic of entrepreneurship are examined in detail.<br />

MGT 653 International Management<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 601<br />

This course examines unique management issues that arise as a result of doing business in an international<br />

context. Student knowledge of the various functional areas such as marketing, and human resource<br />

management will be extended to topics for management in an international environment. The pedagogy involves<br />

a mixture of lectures, case studies, and experiential learning activities.<br />

MGT 699 Special Topics in Management<br />

Prerequisite: MGT 601<br />

This course shall provide critical analysis of current trends and issues in management theory, research, and<br />

practice. Emphasis shall also be on the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of contemporary management issues<br />

<strong>with</strong> specific reference to UAE and GCC countries. The syllabus will be prepared by a competent faculty member<br />

and must be approved by the Chair of the Department.<br />

MIS 501 Information Technology in Business<br />

Prerequisite: None<br />

This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of information technologies and to the strategic<br />

opportunities and challenges presented by these technologies. The course is based on the belief that business<br />

opportunities and challenges are best addressed through a fundamental understanding of management and<br />

technological concepts. Topics covered include databases, data communications and networking, local area<br />

networking and wireless local area networking technologies, Internet technologies, enterprise systems and IT<br />

security. Case analysis is applied to each of the course topics. Laboratory sessions will deal <strong>with</strong> Microsoft Office<br />

as a significant IT application for business.<br />
