Accounting Electives<br />

Objective<br />

The Accounting elective option prepares students for careers in public accounting, industry, or<br />

government, <strong>with</strong>in the framework of the broad-based educational perspective provided by the MBA<br />

program. Graduates entering industry or government are prepared to function as financial information<br />

specialists on the management team. Those entering public accounting bring the larger picture of an<br />

organization and extensive cutting-edge technical training in audit, tax, and consulting projects.<br />

Description<br />

The curriculum shown is designed for the student <strong>with</strong> a bachelor’s degree in an area other than<br />

Objective<br />

The purpose of the Banking elective option is to meet the demand by MBA students and employers for<br />

specialized education in banking. This specialization offers a detailed knowledge of the principles and<br />

techniques of banking, investment banking, commercial and consumer lending markets. The option<br />

emphasizes analytical, computational and managerial skills for banking problems faced by decision<br />

makers.<br />

ACT 501 Financial Accounting<br />

Prerequisites: None<br />

This course attempts to introduce students to the elements of financial accounting and reporting, considerations<br />

pertaining to the preparation of accounting records and reports, analysis of financial reports, and the limitations of<br />

financial reports. An in depth examination of the development of financial statements, and the assessment of their<br />

uses and limitations will be covered. Particular attention is given to accounting problems and practices<br />

involving merchandising, inventories, and cash.<br />
