82 A Sourcebook of HIV/AIDS Prevention Programs, Vol. 2SHEP coordinators attend stakeholder trainings to offer their support,guidance, and advice to trainers and trainees.AdvocacySHEP uses a number of advocacy strategies to encourage enhanced participationand support of program aims and activities by students, implementers,policy makers, and decision makers. Strategies include the following:• Sensitization/creation of awareness• Collaboration, networking, and partnership• Capacity building• Human resource development• Operational research• Development and review of information, education, and communicationmaterials• Distribution of circulars• Feedback to decision makers.Lessons LearnedThe program has not yet been evaluated. Nevertheless, several lessons havebeen learned.Ensuring ConsistencySHEP and the Alert model provide a strong basis for delivering uniform,high-quality HIV prevention education across Ghana. The systemthat has been developed allows all stakeholders to operate within clear andtransparent boundaries toward a common effort. Bringing together somany different partners with so many different needs and priorities is notwithout its complications, however. Ensuring and maintaining standardsremains a challenge.The efficient operation of SHEP district coordinators has been found tobe vital to ensuring consistency of approach.
