Health workers visited more than 90 percent ofschools in the health worker variation; church leaders visited 71 percentin their variation. The topics discussed and the messages brought byhealth workers and church leaders were not influenced by PSABH training:both made abstinence the dominant prevention message. In theminority of cases where health workers spoke about condoms, theyprovided information and addressed individual questions. Church leadersplaced abstinence within a religious and cultural context, providingbiblical and faith-based reasons for abstaining rather than focusing onfear of HIV.• Peer supporters were well received by students and teachers alike and hada positive impact on both the level of school programming and studentknowledge, attitudes, and beliefs.
