It has an activeboard, which includes professionals from various disciplines and peopleliving with HIV/AIDS.The program manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of theorganization. An important part of this work involves ensuring effectivecoordination between schools and AIDS educators. Such coordinationrelieves educators of having to make arrangements with the schools inwhich they work.MethodologyThe main approach is interactive and participative classroom teachingdelivered by JAIP volunteers. The program provides some AIDS educationafter school, through clubs run by youth organizations. AIDS educatorslead activities such as role-plays and discussions, and they show videosabout HIV/AIDS. Since 2005 materials from JAIP’s HIV preventionprogram have been posted on the Internet, enabling participation to bemaintained among more than 500 schools. The program is also deliveredto young people in the military, giving them a “booster shot of AIDSeducation” before they join their units. JAIP trains medical officers andsends an annual “Note on HIV/AIDS,” signed by the army surgeongeneral,to all men and women serving in the Israeli Defense Forces(IDF). On World AIDS Day JAIP, together with the IDF, publishes aposter to be displayed in every base. The mainstay of the program is teaching about HIV/AIDS in schools. This is done through workshops organized upon request of the school orcommunity. HIV/AIDS is said to be “mentioned in biology and scienceclasses,” but comprehensive teaching of the subject is not compulsory.
