Comments received at public meetingsindicate that older subdivisions are becoming less appealing due to the increasing number <strong>of</strong> deterioratingproperties, particularly rental properties. To improve conditions and preserve the character <strong>of</strong> older areas,concentrated efforts must be made through a variety <strong>of</strong> programs to address declining housing conditions,the increasing number <strong>of</strong> neglected rental properties, the presence <strong>of</strong> nuisance violations, and otherblighting influences.Objectives:a) Continue the implementation <strong>of</strong> existing neighborhood improvement plans. The <strong>City</strong> willcontinue to implement neighborhood revitalization plans previously adopted by the <strong>City</strong> Council.Neighborhood Services will work with the <strong>Plan</strong>ning Department to update and evaluate planningstrategies as necessary to ensure that redevelopment and neighborhood wellness goals are met.Activities:Beardsley Park <strong>Plan</strong>: Activities to be completed in the coming year include public education andcitizen input meetings, as well as evaluating the future use <strong>of</strong> the existing Herff Jones parking lot.Infrastructure improvements, including various railroad crossings within the neighborhood boundary,are also scheduled to begin in FY <strong>2010</strong>/11.Inputs: $150,000 local fundingNumber and Type <strong>of</strong> Households to be Assisted (Outputs): Environmental assessment <strong>of</strong> parking lot;repair/replacement <strong>of</strong> railroad tracks at the south end <strong>of</strong> the neighborhoodLocal Outcome Measures:• Completion <strong>of</strong> key phases in the plan implementation processHUD Performance Objective: Create a suitable living environmentHUD Performance Measurement Outcome: SustainabilityTaylor Thomas Subdivision: Staff will oversee the completion <strong>of</strong> the Taylor Thomas housingconstruction project as part <strong>of</strong> the Parkside/Mansard Square redevelopment plan.
