Core Strategy OptionsWhy is it the Preferred Option?This option suggests including land within the Green Belt that had originally been allocated for housing, butis no longer capable of doing so because of its proximity to protected heathlands. The other sites areproposed for inclusion within the urban areas as they are able to provide new housing without compromisingthe heathlands. Land at Blackfield Farm is close to the heathlands, but is capable of providing an elderlycare home, where residents are not a threat to the heathland.This option is assessed as being negative in relation to the sustainable use of resources as it could resultin some greenfield development. Core Strategy OptionsNon Preferred Option KS 5The inner Green Belt boundary will not be amended and the following sites will be includedwithin the urban area:Coopers Lane, VerwoodDoe’s Lane, VerwoodForest View Drive, FerndownBlackfield Farm, West MoorsJulian’s Road, WimborneWoodland Walk, FerndownWhy is it not a Preferred Option?These areas were originally identified as housing allocations. However, a number are in close proximity toheathlands which are vulnerable to human pressures. As these areas can no longer provide housing it isconsidered that they do not need to be excluded from the Green Belt.
