Public Health involvesmultidisciplinary and collaborative strategies for solving healthrelatedproblems, including programs that serve the public sector atall levels—local, state, federal, and global. Faculty members haveexpertise and experience in public health promotion.The MPH program emphasizes the application of broad-based,state-of-the-art quantitative and qualitative skills needed forproblem-solving. Special attention is given to enhancement ofcommunication skills needed to work with diverse populations.Ideal candidates for the MPH program are those students lookingfor career advancement within the public health sector; and thoselooking for career transition into public health from other healthprofessions. Graduates will enhance their opportunities forprofessional growth and job placement through carefully plannedinternships and a multidisciplinary team-based capstoneexperience. The MPH program is an applicant for accreditationwith the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH).Program Learning OutcomesIn accordance with the competency guidelines established by the<strong>National</strong> Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC)and the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH), the Masterof Public Health program prepares graduates to:• Analyze and interpret health data.• Describe the distribution and determinants of disease,disabilities and death in human populations.• Evaluate the environmental factors that affect the health of acommunity.• Analyze the planning, organization, administration and policiesof health care organizations.• Apply the concepts and methods of social and behavioralsciences relevant to the identification and solution of publichealth problems.Concentration in Health Promotion• Assess individual and community needs for health education.• Plan health education strategies, interventions, and programs.• Implement health education strategies, interventions, andprograms.• Conduct evaluation related to health education.• Administer health education strategies and interventions.• Serve as a health education resource person.• Communicate and advocate for health and health education.• Apply appropriate research principles and techniques in healtheducation.• Administer health education programs.• Advance the profession of health education.Degree Requirements(16 courses, 72 quarter units)To receive an MPH degree, students must complete at least 72quarter units of graduate work. A total of 13.5 quarter units ofgraduate credit may be granted for equivalent graduate workcompleted at another institution, as it applies to this degree andprovided the units were not used in earning another advanceddegree.
