School of Media and CommunicationMISSION STATEMENTThe School of Media and Communication is dedicated to preparing adiverse population of learners with valuable skills and enhancedunderstanding in order to pursue careers that merge traditional andmodern media. Students will acquire a broad education inCommunication theory, literacy, and research aimed at enhancing theinteraction of individuals and society with media. Honored students receive lettersof congratulation, certificates of membership, lapel pins, diplomaseals and honor cords. Students accepted for membership to thePinnacle Honor Society are nationally recognized for their academicachievement, community service, leadership, and ethical standards.Each commencement season, the Office of Student Affairs invitesundergraduate students to join Pinnacle based on their qualifyinggrade point average. Students will be asked to complete anapplication which is then reviewed for eligibility determination.UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES■ BACHELOR OF ARTS(610)General Education Program RequirementsThe general education program consists of a minimum of 70.5quarter units. Of the 70.5 units, students must complete at least 4.5units at the upper division level and 4.5 units in diversity enrichedcourse work. A plus [+] indicates a diversity enriched offering. Successful completion of theprogram will enable graduates to compete for employment becausethey possess a combination of skills and knowledge vital to today’sworkplace. Positions in video and multimedia production , business,publishing, government, education and training include WebDesigner/ Developer, Game Designer, Animator, Project Manager,and Multimedia Specialist.Program Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:• Develop and utilize a personal vision in the creation of originalmultimedia content.• Apply the principles of graphic and information design in thegeneration of digital media projects.• Work effectively in teams and independently to completemultimedia projects in a manner consistent with currentindustry practices.• Communicate effectively with clients and production teammembers using oral, visual, and written methods.• Describe and implement the phases of media production, fromthe initial planning to the final delivery of a professionalproduct.• Explain the relevant legal issues related to media production anddistribution• Create active and interactive content with graphics, animation,sound and video using media authoring software.• Design a professional electronic portfolio that demonstrateswriting and design competency in a variety of media, includingweb, digital video, 2D and 3D graphics and animation.• Identify and analyze current trends and key technologies in themedia industry.• Design interactive media using authoring software and scripting281Media andCommunications
