- 130 -Without wishing to criticize the orthodox relativistictreatnent, It nevertheless seems to be fair comment to ask whyGerber's basic proposition is ignored. Though he made an error inhis analysis, that error did not nullify what he said from aqualitative viewpoint and a quantitative correction still left aperihelion advance that is ignored in presenting the General Theoryof Relativity. The fact that Gerber's work is Ignored has to mean that thetheory of relativity does not concern itself with the retardedtransfer of energy in the gravitational field. This, of course, isa very interesting point when we are considering physicalinterpretations. It is, incidentally, of interest to take note that Gerber's 1898treatnent of the perihelion motion of Mercury was the subject of afurther paper i71 expressly published in the same Journal asEinstein's famous General Relativity paper shortly after thatappeared. Gerber's physical explanation for the anomalousperihelion advance is firmly of record in a contemporaryassociation with the Einstein paper and attracted rapid feedback inthe same Journal, so there is no Justifiable excuse for it beingignored by science philosophers and historians. The recent Aspect experiments C8] that support action-at-adistanceeffects in quantum mechanics have given Impetus to theidea that force asserted by a field could be an action of nonretardedpotential in both gravitational and electrodynamicinteractions. Then, when two Interacting particles are in relativemotion, there is energy redeployment which causes some of thepotential to act from a field position that is a function of themotion. The energy in transit will neither be the primary potentialnor the kinetic energy of the particles, but it could assertaction-at-a-dlstance effects on a par with potential energy butfrom Its distributed position. In other words, the distortion ofthe space metric that we see as the 4-space of Einstein's theory
