Exterior load-bearing walls: A minimum 6-inch thick cast-in-placeconcrete wall reinforced with #4 rebars at 12 inches on centereach way is the preferred wall. Other recommended walls are aminimum 8-inch thick fully grouted CMU reinforced with #4 rebarsin each cell, and precast concrete that is a minimum 6 inchesthick and reinforced equivalent to the recommendations for castin-placewalls.3.4.3 Building EnvelopeThe design considerations for building envelope components ofcritical facilities in hurricane-prone regions include a number ofadditional recommendations. The principal concern that must beaddressed is the additional risk from wind-borne debris and waterleakage, as discussed below.3.4.3.1 Exterior DoorsAlthough the ASCE-7 wind-borne debris provisions only applyto glazing within a portion of hurricane-prone regions, it is recommendedthat all critical facilities located where the basicwind speed is 100 mph or greater comply with the followingrecommendations:m To minimize the potential for missiles penetrating exteriordoors and striking people inside the facility, it is recommendedthat doors (with and without glazing) be designed to resist the“E” missile load specified in ASTM E 1996. The doors shouldbe tested in accordance with ASTM E 1886 (2005).
