5 | FOREIGN FINANCINGImprovement andRehabilitation of Roadsand BridgesWith an investment of USD 405million 1,225km of major trunkand arterial roads in the laggingregions have been improved. Whilerehabilitating roads, many bridgessuch as Bentota, Katugastota,Hirana, Weralugastotupola, Molkawa,Lakpandura and Kinniya bridgesconstructed in the colonial period,which are critical links in the roadnetwork, have been reconstructed.During 2005 – 2010, a total amountof USD 272 million has been spentfor post Tsunami reconstruction ofthe 1,136km of roads and 27 bridgesalong the west to the north coastalarea.
