<strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Finance</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Planning</strong> Sri Lanka > <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2010</strong>was built using a grant <strong>of</strong> USD 20.5million (Japanese yen 2,297 million)provided by the Government <strong>of</strong>Japan. Improved facilities at theAnuradhapura Teaching Hospital nowprovide better access to specializedhealthcare services to minimizedifficulties faced by patients whotravel long distances to obtain suchservices from other tertiary healthcareinstitutions. Over 1.3 million peoplewho are residing in the AnuradhapuraDistrict <strong>and</strong> adjoining districts <strong>of</strong>Vavuniya, Mannar, Trincomalee <strong>and</strong>Puttalam, where the healthcarefacilities are comparatively insufficient,have been benefited from this project.Neuro-trauma unit at the ColomboNational HospitalThe 10 storied Neuro Trauma Centreat the National Hospital Colomboequipped with modern facilitiesbuilt at a cost <strong>of</strong> Rs.3000 million<strong>and</strong> funded by the Saudi Fund forDevelopment was declared openthis year (2011). The project, fulfilsan urgent need with regard toinadequate neuro-trauma facilitiesat the Colombo National Hospital.The facility houses 6 ultra-modernoperation theatres, a 66-bed IntensiveCare Unit (ICU), a 43-bed HighDependency Unit (HDU), a SpinalInjury Unit, a Neuro Surgical Unit <strong>and</strong>a ward complex for 150 patients.Epilepsy Unit in the ColomboNational HospitalThe Saudi Fund for Development(SFD) has provided Saudi Riyal 75million (approximately USD 20 million)for the establishment <strong>of</strong> an epilepsyunit with a capacity <strong>of</strong> 242 beds <strong>and</strong>required facilities within the premises<strong>of</strong> the Colombo National Hospital.The unit will consist <strong>of</strong> operationtheaters, Intensive Care Units (ICU), aHigh Dependency Unit (HDU), a maleward, a female ward, <strong>and</strong> provision<strong>and</strong> installation <strong>of</strong> medical equipmentincluding MRI, CT Scanners <strong>and</strong> X-Raymachines. The project commencedin 2008 <strong>and</strong> is scheduled to becompleted by mid 2013.287
