This was mainly due toincreased cadre <strong>of</strong> medical <strong>of</strong>ficers,nurses <strong>and</strong> paramedical services,<strong>and</strong> policies adopted to increaseallowances <strong>and</strong> overtime <strong>of</strong> medical<strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>and</strong> nurses etc.The budgetary provision on MedicalSupplies has increased almost by 90percent during the period 2005 to<strong>2010</strong>. In addition, recurrentexpenditure on electricity & watermainly for hospitals has increasedhealth expenditure on curativeservices during the same period.Further, Rs.1,723 million has also beenutilized for hospital rehabilitation<strong>and</strong> development under capitalexpenditure in <strong>2010</strong>. Moreover, highexpenditures on welfare programmes;Thriposha, benefited 780,000pregnant <strong>and</strong> lactating mothers <strong>and</strong>children above 6 months to 5 yearsannually during the period 2008-<strong>2010</strong>.The Government also continued toincrease financial support on healthpromotion <strong>and</strong> disease preventionutilizing Rs. 1,475 million in <strong>2010</strong>. Morefunds have been invested on newinitiatives to control communicable<strong>and</strong> non communicable diseases suchas Dengue, Leptospirosis, Cancer,Mental Health, Kidney failure etc.Moreover, international organizationssuch as World Bank (WB), GlobalFund, Global Alliance for VaccineImmunization (GAVI), World HealthOrganization (WHO) etc. haveextended their support in healthpromotion <strong>and</strong> disease preventionactivities during the period 2005 to<strong>2010</strong>.79
