1 | DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVESHospital Network <strong>and</strong> Strength <strong>of</strong>ManpowerThe Government provides a widearray <strong>of</strong> health services throughoutthe country through a well establishednetwork <strong>of</strong> health institutions underthe <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Health <strong>and</strong> ProvincialMinistries. A steady increase in thenumber <strong>of</strong> hospitals <strong>and</strong> hospital bedsdelivering a range <strong>of</strong> medical servicesfrom primary to tertiary care wasreflected over the past five years.In view <strong>of</strong> providing improved servicesfor both curative <strong>and</strong> preventive care,the essential categories <strong>of</strong> healthmanpower have strengthened during2005 to <strong>2010</strong>. The driving forces <strong>of</strong>two important categories <strong>of</strong> staff,namely, doctors <strong>and</strong> nurses, haveincreased reflecting the graduallyenhanced doctor/nurse: populationratios.
