Contracts forrehabilitation have been awardedfor eight dams i.e. ParakramaSamudraya, Kanthale, Inginimitiya,Thabbowa, Dambulu Oya,K<strong>and</strong>alama, Bowathenna. SocialAssessment <strong>of</strong> Thabbowa <strong>and</strong>Dambulu Oya was completed.All 80 dams were provided withmaintenance equipment. 26inspection boats were provided for26 dams for perimeter inspection.Cumulative expenditure up to theend <strong>of</strong> <strong>2010</strong> was Rs. 1893 million.• Phase II <strong>of</strong> the Sustainable WaterAssistance Management Project thatcommenced in 2008 has imported5000 Solar power drip irrigationsystems <strong>and</strong> distributed themamong dry zone farmers. Cumulativecost at the end <strong>of</strong> <strong>2010</strong> was Rs. 845million.• Out <strong>of</strong> 10,000 minor tanks targetedunder rehabilitation programmecommenced in 2004, about 3,441tanks /anicuts have been completedat a cost <strong>of</strong> Rs. 2830 million.Government / NGOs/private sectorwill finance the rehabilitation <strong>of</strong>10,000 tanks through participatoryapproaches. This will enable to irrigate<strong>of</strong> more than 200,000 ha. by 2020,contributing to poverty reduction aswell as fulfilling the socio economicneeds <strong>of</strong> the poorer farmers.71
