In average, 51 percent of theactivities have been completed. Theproject is expected to be complete in2013.Vavuniya - KillinochchiTransmission LineFollowing the end of the conflict, theGovernment has launched a massiveinitiative with a view to providingelectricity to the northern regionwithin a short period. As part of thisinitiative the Government of Japan hasprovided USD 13.4 million (Japaneseyen 1,208 million) to construct a 132kmtransmission line from Vavuniya toKilinochchi and a Grid Substation atKilinochchi. The Government of Japanis expected to provide an additionalloan of USD 15 million to cover theadditional financial requirements ofthe project in 2011. The constructionworks of the transmission line and thegrid substation are in progress andscheduled to be completed in July2012.The transmission line from Killinochchito Chunnakam and the Substation atChunnakam will be funded by ADBunder the CARE project. After therehabilitation, the entire Northernregion will be connected to theNational Grid.Procurement of Materials forthe Power Sector DevelopmentProgramme - Northern ProvinceThe Government of Chinathrough the Export – ImportBank of China provided a loanof USD 31,659,391.82 for theprocurement of material for theNorthern Province Power SectorDevelopment Programme.
