190A CHRONICLE OF THE ENGINEERING COUNCILNeighbourhood <strong>Engine</strong>ersNominated BodyA scheme through which volunteer Registered<strong>Engine</strong>ers co-operate with <strong>the</strong>ir local schools withadvice and assistance on projects and design andtechnology.A body (usually an <strong>Engine</strong>ering Institution) certified by<strong>the</strong> EngC to assess <strong>the</strong> competence, commitment andpr<strong>of</strong>essional conduct <strong>of</strong> individuals, and hence <strong>the</strong>irsuitability <strong>for</strong> admission to <strong>the</strong> EngC’s Register.Nominations and Audit Committee The EngC executive committee responsible <strong>for</strong>evaluating and recommending whe<strong>the</strong>r applicant bodiesshould be Licensed and, utilising <strong>the</strong> system <strong>of</strong> EngCReps, ensuring compliance with <strong>the</strong> conditions <strong>of</strong>licensing.Pr<strong>of</strong>essional AffiliatePr<strong>of</strong>essional Associate(discontinued in 1995)Register, TheRegister, Sections <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Register, Stages <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>RegistrantWashington AccordA pr<strong>of</strong>essional engineering body (not necessarilycomprising individual members) having a <strong>for</strong>malassociation with <strong>the</strong> EngC.A pr<strong>of</strong>essional engineering body which cannot,or does not wish to, be Nominated or Institution-Affiliated but whose contribution to engineering iswelcomed by <strong>the</strong> EngC.The EngC listing <strong>of</strong> names and addresses <strong>of</strong> individualswho have satisfied <strong>the</strong> requirements <strong>of</strong> registration.There are three Sections <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Register:Chartered <strong>Engine</strong>er (CEng)Incorporated <strong>Engine</strong>er (IEng) <strong>Engine</strong>eringTechnician (EngTech)For each Section <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Register <strong>the</strong>re are three Stages:Stage 1 – Satisfactory EducationStage 2 – Satisfactory TrainingStage 3 – Satisfactory Experience<strong>An</strong> individual listed on a Section and Stage <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> EngCRegister.<strong>An</strong> international agreement whereby a graduate from anaccredited engineering degree course in one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>participating countries is recognised in all <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rcountries as possessing an academic qualification equalto <strong>the</strong>ir own accredited engineering degrees.© <strong>Engine</strong>ering <strong>Council</strong> UK 2004
