BERG2 Micro-Computer Estimation of Freeze and Thaw Depths and Thaw Consolidation
Braley, W. A.; Connor, B.; Jun. 1989; 42 pp.; In English
Report No.(s): PB2006-101455; No Copyright; Avail.: CASI: A03, Hardcopy
The BERG2 microcomputer program uses a methodology similar to the Modified Berggren method (Aldrich and Paynter,
1953) to estimate the freeze and thaw depths in layered soils systems. The program also provides an estimate of the thaw
consolidation in ice rich soils. BERG2 differs from the original Modified Berggren method since it uses the actual frozen and
unfrozen material thermal properties instead of average vales. This approach improves the accuracy of the predictions.BERG2
provides an improved user interface over the original BERG program, (Braley, 1984). It also requires less input as a result of
the ability to compute many of climatic parameters from the more common data. As a result the user required input is
significantly reduced. This manual provides the user information concerning the use of BERG2, its strengths and its
limitations. It also provides a discussion of the equations used in development of the program for those who wish a better
understanding of the analysis process.
Variant of the Chaum Voter-verifiable Scheme
Ryan, P. Y. A.; Oct. 2004; 20 pp.; In English
Report No.(s): PB2006-102496; CS-TR-864; Copyright; Avail.: National Technical Information Service (NTIS)
We present a variant of Chaum’s voter veriable election scheme that preserves the essential characteristics of the original
whilst being signicantly easier to understand and implement.
Characterizing Network Services through Cluster-Set Variations
Bartoletti, A.; Tang, N.; Apr. 01, 2005; 18 pp.; In English
Report No.(s): DE2005-15016408; UCRL-TR-211020; No Copyright; Avail.: National Technical Information Service (NTIS)
Common Internet services can be reliably distinguished based solely upon the locations of clusters in traffic-based features
(ratios of inbound to outbound packets, ratios of packets to payloads, etc.) This capability has value in revealing the nature
of ‘hidden’ (tunneled) services and in detecting anomalous changes to known services. We provide measures of session
capture volumes sufficient to make confidence-level assertions regarding ‘unknown’ services, and outline a throughput system
for providing alarms for service anomalies.
Performance Technology for Tera-Class Parallel Computers: Evolution of the TAU Performance System
Malony, A. D.; Jun. 2005; 14 pp.; In English
Report No.(s): DE2005-841036; No Copyright; Avail.: Department of Energy Information Bridge
In this project, we proposed to create new technology for performance observation and analysis of large-scale tera-class
parallel computer systems and applications in this project. We set out to accomplish four goals. These were to provide in the
TAU performance system: (1) greater dynamics and flexibility in performance measurements, (2) increased access to
performance data during execution, (3) improved methods for performance mapping in multi-layered and mixed model
software, and (4) more comprehensive application/system performance data integration.
