The simulation system with a post-processor is also described. This integrated simulator includes numerical process and device
modeling to understand and design submicrometer Si devices with nonplanar Si/Si02 structure. For 0.5 pm MOSFET device
simulation, it has simple and accurate physical models of carrier mobilities and nonlocal impact ionization process. The
capabilities of three-dimensional modeling are actually proved in the avalanche breakdown simulation of LOCOS isolated 0.5
micron MOSFETs within 5-percent accuracy. It has been confirmed that the accurate and practical process/device CAD is
realized in three dimensions using a super-computer.
Advances in VLSI technology and corresponding advances in the development of parallel algorithms have made it more
and more practical to consider the implementation of multidimensional (N-D) digital filters in real-time. There are two
approaches to the development of high performance architectures for implementing digital filters in real-time. One approach
is to decompose the transfer function to take advantage of inherent parallelism. This approach works well for one-dimensional
(l-D) digital filters. However, this approach is difficult for N-D digital filters because of the lack of a fundamental theorem for
the factorization or partial fraction expansion of the transfer function. The other approach is to process the data in block form.
This paper will address this second approach as an option for partitioning N-D digital filters for implementation on a
multiprocessor system.
Since late 1981, a group at IBM’s Palo Alto Scientific Center has been studying a novel computational mechanism called
‘flow-of activation networks’ or ‘FAN’. This work builds upon a wealth of interdisciplinary knowledge contributed by
numerous investigators over many years. It includes advances in the theoretical understanding and application of FANs, as
well as development of numerous tools to facilitate these studies. Several application areas are being assessed, including
knowledge-based systems, robotic vision and distributed real-time control.
Representing Lattice Ordered Associative Memories with Artificial Neural Networks
Lemmon, M.; Vijaya Kumar, B. V. K.; 1987 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, Volume 2; 1987,
Associative memory is treated as a process which stores and recalls entities and the relationships between these entities.
Relationships between entities induce a partial ordering of the memory space which may then be captured and represented by
an artificial neural network.
