Introduction <strong>and</strong> Objectives<br />

The association between abdominal obesity, insulin-resistance, type 2 diabetes,<br />

dyslipidemia <strong>and</strong> arterial hypertension has been known for many years. Metabolic<br />

syndrome represents an adverse metabolic state since it confers an increased risk for<br />

both type 2 diabetes <strong>and</strong> cardiovascular disease. Targeting physical inactivity <strong>and</strong><br />

obesity with lifestyle changes is the cornerstone of the prevention <strong>and</strong> treatment of<br />

the metabolic syndrome.<br />

This programme is for persons with metabolic syndrome according to the definition<br />

of NCEP-ATPIII.<br />

Materials <strong>and</strong> Methods<br />

Quality criteria for educational interventions<br />

• Processes centred on the patient with individual discussion<br />

• Tracing with an educational file<br />

• Team work multi-occupational (physicians, dieticians, sports teachers) <strong>and</strong> inter-sectors<br />

(spa-resort, family physicians, specialists, patients’associations)<br />

• Formation of contributors<br />

• Coordination procedures between contributors<br />

Methodology<br />

Workshop with persons from different horizons : specialist of medical education<br />

<strong>and</strong> public health, physicians, directors of spa-resorts, associations of patients,<br />

nutritionists.<br />

Results<br />

Framework of the program<br />

• Course of the patient which allows to determine the activities in which he will<br />

take part during the cure: diet, workshops, conferences, personalized physical<br />

activities with coaching<br />

• At the end of the cure: results <strong>and</strong> plan of action when return at home <strong>and</strong> following<br />

during a year<br />

• Propositions are given to the family physician<br />
