relevant oscillation of total dissolved solids <strong>and</strong> of the piezometric level.<br />

The NaCl facies of the waters are directly dependent of sea water mixing processes<br />

<strong>and</strong> the CO2 total content as deep origin. This CO2-rich acidizing water,<br />

promotes rock leaching contributing to high contents of silica, iron, nickel <strong>and</strong><br />

manganese, among others dissolved species.<br />

Flow from primitive exploitation works (dug well located inside the Thermal<br />

Bath of Carapacho <strong>and</strong> dug well accessible by a gallery, <strong>and</strong> destroyed by the 1998<br />

earthquake, at Varadouro)<br />

Conclusions<br />

Those mineral waters have electrical conductivities from 6 to 47 mS/cm <strong>and</strong><br />

temperatures from 35ºC (Varadouro old spring), to 41ºC (Carapacho) <strong>and</strong> 62ºC<br />

(Ferraria). At springs occurring in the basal complex the dynamics of tide determines<br />

relevant oscillation of total dissolved solids <strong>and</strong> of the piezometric level.<br />
