Physiotherapy <strong>and</strong> low back pain: effectiveness<br />

Introduction <strong>and</strong> Objectives<br />

Older people experience a diminished of quality of life that increases when suffer<br />

daily the symptoms of chronic nonspecific low back pain, so it will be important<br />

to identify an intervention to stop this decline in the quality of life or even, as far as<br />

possible, improvement it. To study whether the response of elderly (+65 years)<br />

suffering chronic nonspecific low back pain is the same as in individuals who suffer<br />

the same musculoskeletal problem but are younger, after conducting a multimodal<br />

physiotherapy program (MPP) during eight weeks.<br />

Materials <strong>and</strong> Methods<br />

through questionnaires SF-12 (PHS <strong>and</strong> MHS), EuroQol-5D (EQ5D <strong>and</strong><br />

EQVAS) <strong>and</strong> Rol<strong>and</strong> Morris Questionnaire (Disability), measure the general health<br />

state, quality of life <strong>and</strong> functional capacity of 60 patients (30 women, 30 men) who<br />

suffer chronic nonspecific low back pain without radiation to lower limbs, divided<br />

in two subgroups according to age: Subgroup 1 (=/65 years) (n=30). These measurements were performed before <strong>and</strong> after a<br />

physiotherapy multimodal program that integrates manual therapy, therapeutic<br />

exercise <strong>and</strong> health education, during eight weeks.<br />

Conclusions<br />

The response after a MPP of eight weeks in patients with chronic nonspecific<br />

low back pain is almost similar in both age groups on the measured variables.<br />
