New Chinese Circus<br />
The celebrated company from Zhejiang province<br />
appears at the Moscow Manege. You will not see<br />
the trained animals and jolly clowns with which<br />
the circus is associated in the minds of Russian<br />
audiences, but you can expect captivating acrobatic<br />
turns, a riot of color, special effects and bright scenery.<br />
The New Year show is based on Hans Christian<br />
Andersen’s fairytales, but even a Chinese circus<br />
cannot ignore Russian traditions at this time of year:<br />
Grandfather Frost and his granddaughter will be there<br />
to wish everyone a happy holiday.<br />

For the eighth time the Novaya Opera Theater is featuring a fascinating<br />
program of musical rarities that will interest even the most fastidious<br />
music lovers. This year the audience will hear Respighi’s cantata Christus,<br />
as well as rarely performed operas: Massenet’s Thais and Verdi’s<br />
I Lombardi alla prima crociata. Also planned are premieres of Borodin’s<br />
Prince Igor, Rossini’s La Cenerentola and a grand dramatized show entitled<br />

Ginger Nick and the Workshop of Marvels<br />
An absorbing New Year show that is sure to appeal both to the very young and to their parents.<br />
The story of how Ginger Nick, the owner of a toy factory, his assistant Tronki the mouse and<br />
the ordinary boy Nikolenka came to be in the magical Workshop of Marvels and what happened<br />
next is presented in a show of the very highest standard. The music has been written by<br />
the well-known composer Vyacheslav Gorsky, and the Artistic Director is Pavel Bryun, who<br />
has previously worked with the celebrated Cirque du Soleil.<br />
