<strong>WRIA</strong> <strong>62</strong> <strong>WMP</strong> <strong>032305</strong><br />
Aquatic Plant Management Plan (Pend Oreille County, 2003), has<br />
been identified by the WPU to be implemented by the Pend<br />
Oreille County Weed Board:<br />
a. Prepare and distribute public education materials (e.g.,<br />
signs, leaflets, fliers) to educate residents and visitors on<br />
how they can prevent the spread <strong>of</strong> aquatic invasive<br />
plants. Review available public outreach and education<br />
materials available from <strong>Ecology</strong> and create new<br />
materials where needed. Education will focus on<br />
prevention and management.<br />
The following action, which is included in the Interim Integrated<br />
Aquatic Plant Management Plan (Pend Oreille County, 2003), has<br />
been identified by the WPU to be implemented by the Pend<br />
Oreille County Public Works <strong>Department</strong>:<br />
b. Establish a program/schedule for replacing signs at boat<br />
ramps to educate the public on the need to clean aquatic<br />
vegetation from water craft.<br />
The following actions, which are not included in the Interim<br />
Integrated Aquatic Plant Management Plan (Pend Oreille County,<br />
2003), have been identified by the WPU to be implemented by<br />
the Pend Oreille County Weed Board:<br />
c. Recommend that Pend Oreille County establish a<br />
“Milfoil Day” or other annual public event to increase<br />
awareness on prevention and management <strong>of</strong> milfoil and<br />
other aquatic nuisance weeds.<br />
d. Develop methods to educate river users who may not be<br />
local residents or property owners.<br />
e. Increase education at the County Fair by participation <strong>of</strong><br />
agencies with fair booths including Pend Oreille Public<br />
Utility District, Pend Oreille Conservation District and<br />
Kalispel Tribe.
