WQUAL-4a: The natural quality <strong>of</strong> drinking water provided to some communities does not<br />

meet <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>State</strong> secondary drinking water standards.<br />

Management Action SEPA Analysis<br />

1. Watershed planning Implementing Body will communicate with<br />

WDOH to identify the water systems / communities in <strong>WRIA</strong> <strong>62</strong> that<br />

require assistance to improve drinking water quality. The Watershed<br />

Planning Implementing Body acknowledges that WDOH has<br />

expended effort and funds within <strong>WRIA</strong> <strong>62</strong> to improve the quality <strong>of</strong><br />

water supplied to communities where needed. The intent <strong>of</strong> this<br />

strategy is to support WDOH’s on-going efforts through the following<br />

actions (as appropriate):<br />

<strong>WRIA</strong> <strong>62</strong> <strong>WMP</strong> <strong>032305</strong><br />

• Purveyor education;<br />

• Well and water distribution system maintenance;<br />

• Water treatment; and,<br />

• Development <strong>of</strong> alternative sources.<br />

The Watershed Planning Implementing Body will identify funding<br />

and technical assistance through WDOH to support these actions.<br />

2. The Watershed Planning Unit encourages WDOH to communicate<br />

with the Watershed Planning Implementing Body with respect to<br />

education and funding opportunities to assist water systems /<br />

communities in <strong>WRIA</strong> <strong>62</strong> that require assistance to improve drinking<br />

water quality.<br />

WQUAL-4b: There is a need to review wellhead protection plans throughout <strong>WRIA</strong> <strong>62</strong> and<br />

improve these plans as needed.<br />

Management Action SEPA Analysis<br />

1. The Watershed Planning Unit recommends that the Implementing<br />

Body support the Northeast Tri-County Health District and the<br />

WDOH to conduct sanitary surveys <strong>of</strong> Group A and B water systems<br />

in <strong>WRIA</strong> <strong>62</strong>.<br />

2. The Watershed Planning Unit recommends that Pend Oreille County<br />

consider including Group A and Group B Public Water System<br />

wellheads in Critical Areas Ordinance in future updates <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Comprehensive Plan and Critical Areas Ordinance. The Watershed<br />

Planning Implementing Body will assist Pend Oreille County as<br />

appropriate to include wellheads in Critical Areas Ordinance.<br />
