GR&LU 2a-3 The Watershed Planning Implementing Body will support utilizing GIS to<br />

develop map layers which include livestock ownerships, locations and<br />

management methods within riparian areas.<br />

GR&LU 2a-4 Pend Oreille Conservation District and NRCS will prepare an action plan. All<br />

entities involved with grazing in riparian areas should be involved with<br />

development <strong>of</strong> this action plan.<br />

3.5.3 GR&LU-2b<br />

Problem <strong>State</strong>ment: There is a continued need for funding <strong>of</strong> education and program<br />

implementation related to livestock management in riparian areas.<br />

Goal: To provide outreach / education to those in <strong>WRIA</strong> <strong>62</strong> managing livestock in riparian areas and<br />

to identify programs / funding to provide assistance for projects to minimize the impacts <strong>of</strong> managing<br />

livestock in riparian areas.<br />

Statute Justification: RCW 90.82.010; RCW 90.82.090(2); RCW 90.82.110.<br />

Management Action(s):<br />

GR&LU 2b-1 Pend Oreille Conservation District and NRCS will develop and distribute<br />

outreach and educational materials.<br />

GR&LU 2b-2 Pend Oreille Conservation District and NRCS will promote and assist<br />

landowners in applying for cost-share programs such as the WDFW Landowner<br />

Incentive Program (LIP), NRCS Environmental Quality Incentive Program<br />

(EQIP), NRCS Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP), NRCS Wetland<br />

Reserve Program (WRP), USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research and<br />

Education (SARE) Program Producer Grant Program, USFWS Partners for Fish<br />

and Wildlife and Private Stewardship Grants, USDA Farm Service<br />

Administration Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), <strong>Ecology</strong>’s 319 funds (for<br />

non-point source water quality issues), and other relevant cost share programs<br />

available for livestock management in riparian areas.<br />

GR&LU 2b-3 Pend Oreille Conservation District and NRCS will promote land management<br />

technical assistance programs such as the NRCS Conservation <strong>of</strong> Private Grazing<br />

Land Program and the Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative, as well as<br />

technical assistance through the USFWS, USFS, WDFW, KNRD, BLM and<br />

Pend Oreille Conservation District.<br />

GR&LU 2b-4 Pend Oreille Conservation District and NRCS will coordinate with the Pend<br />

Oreille Salmonid Recovery Team (Chapter 77.85 RCW) on education grants to<br />

educate private landowners on the benefits <strong>of</strong> livestock management in riparian<br />

areas and grants available to fund related projects.<br />
