Notes on Usage via Internet
DNS Name for Web Server

The public IP address which allows ORIS Press Matcher⁄⁄Web to be
accessed from the Internet must be assigned to a DNS name. This is a
name which can be entered into the address line of the web browser. A
DNS name is also referred to as a fully qualified domain name.
To get a DNS name, do the following:
• If you have a static public IP address, register the DNS name in the
Domain Name System (DNS). You can also commission your Internet
service provider with the DNS name registration.
• If you do not have a static public IP address, use the service of a
DynDNS provider. For more details refer to Addressing DSL Routers
(see below).
Server Configuration
The ORIS Press Matcher⁄⁄Web Server is implemented as a ‘name-based
virtual host’. Therefore, the Web Server needs to know its own DNS
name in order to respond to requests from the Internet. To make the
name known, enter it into the configuration file of the Apache Web
Server.
This file is named httpd.conf and resides in the following directory on
the computer on which ORIS Press Matcher⁄⁄Web was installed:
…\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\conf\
Open this file with any text editor such as Notepad. Do not use a word
processing system such as Word. Before making any changes you
should make a backup copy of the configuration file. Note that there are
backup copies created automatically in the same directory (with additions
to the file name such as _old).
Scroll down to the end until you find the section. It
contains the instruction ServerName colorserver.example.com. Replace
colorserver.example.com with the DNS name of the Web Server.
Router Configuration

You have to define a port forwarding rule for your router. Requests to port
80 (HTTP) coming from the Internet must be forwarded via the local
network to the computer on which ORIS Press Matcher⁄⁄Web is installed.
Use the computer’s LAN IP address to specify the forwarding destination.
It is sufficient to forward requests to port 80 only. Do not specify forwarding
for all ports. This would put your computer at risk unnecessarily.
