Creating Reference Printer Profiles
Further Reducing Color Gamut
• Click LOAD and select the measurement file of your linearization test
chart (unless the test chart has been measured automatically).
• Into the C, M, Y and K boxes next to USER DEFINED, enter solid densities
which are 0.2 units higher than those used previously.
For example, if your previous reduction was to C1.80, M1.80, Y1.40,
K2.00, you should now use C2.00, M2.00, Y1.60, K2.20.
Further Reducing Color Gamut
Reference printer profiles can be used for aligning multiple printers (see
page 16-1).
If there is a printer with a small color gamut, it may not be possible to successfully
minimize the delta E values during iterative printer calibration.
In this case it may help to further reduce the RFP file’s color gamut.
Proceed as follows:
1. Select UTILITIES | REFERENCE PRINTER PROFILE | CREATE. This opens
the CREATE REFERENCE PRINTER PROFILE dialog (see Fig. 20-1).
2. Click the BROWSE button.
3. Load the measurement file (*.txt) of the characterization test chart
(e.g. ECI2002) that was used for creating the RFP file.
4. Change the DEGREE OF GAMUT LIMITATION option, e.g. from MINOR to
MODERATE.
5. Click OK and save the modified RFP file.
Note: This dialog also allows you to create new RFP files. It is assumed that
you have output a characterization test chart on a linearized printer.
