Spot Color Simulation Step 7: Optimize Spot Colors // WEB« Note: In certain color areas, a color distance of 5 delta E is not yet visually perceived as critical, while in other color areas a color distance of less than 5 delta E is perceived as critical already. It is therefore advisable to evaluate the color distance both visually and numerically. This allows you to correct the midtones, for example. 1. In the SPOT COLOR CORRECTION dialog (see Fig. 15-6), select a spot color, then click on the GRADATION button. The SPOT COLOR GRADATION dialog appears (see Fig. 15-17). 2. Select the color channel to be modified by clicking the C, M, Y or K option underneath COLOR. The curve corresponding to the selected channel is indicated by large points. 3. Edit the selected curve: • Click to add a new point. • Drag a point to move it. • Right-click or SHIFT-click a point to delete it. 4. Click APPLY to temporarily save all changes made so far. Click UNDO if you want to restore the curve saved temporarily. If you have not yet used APPLY, clicking UNDO will restore the original unmodified curve. 5. You can switch to a different color channel at any time. Having done so, repeat steps 3 and 4. 6. Click OK to close the dialog. You are back in the SPOT COLOR COR- RECTION dialog. The number of points defining the gradation curves is displayed in the INFO column. Fig. 15-17 ‘Spot Color Gradation’ Dialog Reversing All Changes Spot Color Simulation Step 8: Evaluate Spot Color Simulation You can use the RESET ALL button to reverse all changes made in the SPOT COLOR CORRECTION dialog (see Fig. 15-6). All CMYK values are then recalculated from the currently loaded printer characterization file (see page 15-4). Step 8: Evaluate Spot Color Simulation 1. Close the SPOT COLOR CORRECTION dialog. 2. Print a spot color test chart. 3. Evaluate the spot color match. We recommend to do this under standard lighting conditions (D50, 5000°K). 4. Optimize the spot color simulation if required (see Step 7).
