Ink Saving Installation Installation http://www.image2output.com • Acrobat Distiller for conversion to PDF format (not required for PDF files that are color-matched only) 1. Plug the ORIS Press Matcher⁄⁄Web dongle to your computer. 2. Install ORIS Press Matcher⁄⁄Web. This will automatically install and create the following: • Apache Web Service • Java Runtime Engine • Windows user named ‘ORIS-Service’ Starting ORIS Press Matcher⁄⁄Web Select START | ALL PROGRAMS | CGS | ORIS PRESS MATCHER WEB. Creating Ink Saver Color Tables // WEB« 1. Select one of the following command on the COLOR | INK SAVER menu: • STANDARD to save ink within one color space – or • PREMIUM to convert from one color space to another and then apply ink saving 2. Select the ICC profile defining the press conditions your files are prepared for (SOURCE). For the PREMIUM function, additionally select the profile defining the press conditions to be used for printing (TARGET). 3. PREMIUM function only: Make sure the RENDERING INTENT is set to PERCEPTUAL (IMAGE). You can exclude pure black and primary colors from the color space transformation. 4. Enable TOTAL INK COVERAGE if you want to reduce this value. TIC defaults to a suitable value that depends on the selected (target) profile. 5. WEB« http://www.image2output.com Ink Saving Creating Ink Saver Color Tables 6. Specify the amount of CMY ink to be replaced with black (CMY RE- DUCTION). Use the preview charts to find the optimum reduction level. CMY chart (left): Relative change of ink levels CMYK chart (right): Absolute change of ink levels The optimum value is achieved as soon as one of the CMY curves touches the x-axis in one of the preview charts. Do not to ‘squeeze’ the curves against the x-axis so that they become flat. This would change the gray balance, i.e. colors would lose saturation. Too low Optimum Too high 7. Specify how RGB colors should be converted to CMYK. 8. Click CONTINUE. 9. Specify a name and save location for the ORIS_DAT color table. The program will calculate this color table and indicate when this process has completed.
