Before using a new reference printer profile you should check whether
the color gamut is large enough to simulate the target printing process.
If the color gamut is too small, you should recreate the RFP file.
Step 1: Compare Color Gamuts
1. Select UTILITIES | GAMUT VIEWER to start the GAMUT VIEWER tool.
2. Click ADD, select GAMUT OF A MEASUREMENT and load the RFP file
you have just created.
3. Click ADD, select GAMUT OF AN ICC PROFILE and load the ICC profile
characterizing the printing process.
4. Compare the two color gamuts.
The reference printer’s color gamut must be
larger than that of the printing process, i.e.
there must be no out-of-gamut colors.
In addition, there must be a certain space
between the borders of the two color gamuts,
but this space must not be too large.
5. If the color gamut is too small, recreate the reference printer profile
using higher solid density values (see Step 2 below).
Step 2: Recreate RFP File
To recreate the RFP file, rerun the Reference Printer Profile Wizard (see
page 20-1). Proceed in the same way as before. When reducing the
solid density values (see page 20-3), however, do the following:
