recoge la primera impresión que tuvo Dick sobre Perry: “a good guy, of a
bit stuck on himself”, “sentimental”, “too much”, “the dreamer”. El hecho
de haber matado a un negro con un cadena de bicicleta hizo que la opinión
de Dick sobre Perry cambiase a mejor: “. . he possessed unusual and
valuable qualities”. Es muy probable que la impresión que Capote recibió
fuese la misma que la de Dick. Dick pensaba que Peri-y era “a natural killer
(absolutely sane, but conciousless, and capable of dealing, with or without
motive, the coldest, blooded deathblowns”). La llegada de Dick y Perry
recuerda en cierta medida la llegada de Joel a Noon City en Qiher Voices;
Odier Roonis.
“This is it, this is it, this has to be it, there’s the
school, there’s the garage, now we tun south’. To Peri-y it
seemed as though Dick were muttering jubilant mumbo
jumbo. They left the highway, sped through a deserted
Holcomb, and crossed the Santa Fe tracks. ‘The bank, that
must be the bank, now we tun west - see the trees? this is
it, this has tobe it.”
Llega la mañana y los vecinos se preguntan por la falta de
movimiento en casa de los Clutter. Llaman a la puerta, por teléfono. Nancy
- una vecina - y Susan fueron allí y descubrieron lo ocurrido (según consta
en la declaración de Susan).AJ comienzo de la página 59, y una vez
descubierto el primer cadáver, el lector se encuentra una vez más con el
“statement” del autor cuando dice “He (Larry Hendricks, un profesor)
wanted to write, but his appartment was not the ideal lair for a would be
author.”(Capote 1966:59)
Este comentario podría estar perfectamente extraído de Breakfasi
a/ T¿ffany’s, para luego finalizar “remarkably like youthfbl photographs of
attentively and compassionately as anyone alive”.
