genius Fred is. He’s written barrels of the most marvellous stories. Well,
don’t blush Fred: you didn’t say you were a genious, 1 did.” (Capote
1958: 3 8)
“My complexes aren’t inferior enough: being a
movie star and having a big fat ego are supposed to go
hand-in-hand; actually, it’s essential not to have any ego at
alí. 1 don’t mean I’d mmd being rich and famous. That’s
ver>’ much on my schedule, and someda>’ 1’ll try to get
around it; but if it happens, I’ll like to have my ego tagging
along, 1 want to still be me when 1 wake up one fine
morning ami have Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” (Capote 1958:38-
39)
could happen to you there, not with those kind men in their suits, and that
lovel>’ smell of silver and alligator wallets”.
