announcement of Hickcock’s confession on Sunda>’<br />
evening, newsmen of ever>’ style had assembled in Gar<strong>de</strong>n<br />
City: representatives of the major wire services, the major<br />
wii-e sei-vices, photographers, newsreel and television<br />
cameramen, reporteis from Missouri, Nebraska, Ok<strong>la</strong>homa,<br />
Texas, and of course, alí the principal Kansas papers-<br />
twenty or thirty five men altogether.” (Capote 1966: 204-<br />

Una vez <strong>de</strong>tenidos los sospechosos, una vez reducidos y<br />
tras<strong>la</strong>dados, Capote se dispone a concluir su libro con un último capítulo<br />
don<strong>de</strong> lo que el lector va a leer forma completamente parte <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> biografia<br />
<strong>de</strong>l autor. Estas páginas finales están llenas <strong>de</strong> los testimonios <strong>de</strong> los<br />
con<strong>de</strong>nados, <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong>s personas que trabajan en <strong>la</strong> prisión y <strong>de</strong> los que, <strong>de</strong> una<br />
forma u otra, tenían algo que <strong>de</strong>cir en este caso. Por ejemplo, Perry a los<br />
pocos días <strong>de</strong> llegar a <strong>la</strong> prisión empezó a llevar una especie <strong>de</strong> diario que<br />
<strong>de</strong> alguna forma ‘[ruman Capote consiguió cuando hab<strong>la</strong>ba con él o al que<br />
pudo tener acceso <strong>de</strong>spués <strong>de</strong> su muerte. Por ello, todos los hechos son<br />
reales y tienen a Capote como centro, todo ello lo pudo observar Capote<br />
porque lo vivió. Es autobiográfico. Con toda <strong>la</strong> importancia que tiene<br />
<strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> el punto <strong>de</strong> vista literario el último capítulo es casi más importante<br />
saber exactamente cual fue <strong>la</strong> vida <strong>de</strong> Capote allí. Después <strong>de</strong> <strong>la</strong> llegada <strong>de</strong><br />
los criminales- que ya ha re<strong>la</strong>tado el propio autor- intentó entrevistarles y<br />
ocurrió lo siguiente<br />
