Ficción y Realidad en <strong>la</strong> obra <strong>de</strong> Truman Capote<br />
en este re<strong>la</strong>to que nació en Nueva Orleans, que ha sufrido, que lo que más<br />
daño le ha causado son los abadonos. También le ha dicho que es honesto<br />
consigo mismo y que cuando era niño creía en el Dios que le enseñaron sus<br />
tías, en un Dios bueno que hacia que <strong>la</strong>s cosas tuviesen sentido. Le ha<br />
contado también a su lector que tras un <strong>la</strong>rgo paréntesis ha vuelto a creer<br />
en Dios y a aceptarle e incluso a pedirle ayuda. Le ha contado su encuentro<br />
con una <strong>de</strong> sus escritoras favoritas en Nueva York, y sus gustos literarios.<br />
Truman Capote ha repasado su vida, se ha confesado ante su lector y está<br />
dispuesto a dar por concluida su obra. Si hemos dicho que vida y obra van<br />
a <strong>la</strong> par, este momento supone el punto final: <strong>la</strong> muerte tranqui<strong>la</strong> y<br />
durmiendo tal y como ocurrió el 24 <strong>de</strong> Agosto <strong>de</strong> 1984 en casa <strong>de</strong> su<br />
amiga Joanne Carson en Los Angeles. Tranquilo. Durmiendo. El final <strong>de</strong><br />
Truman Capote personaje es <strong>la</strong> muerte <strong>de</strong>l autor.<br />
“TC: And has he (helped you)?<br />
TC: Ves. More and more. But I’m not a saint yet.<br />
I’m an alcoholie. I’m a drug adict. I’m homosexual. 1’m a<br />
genious. Of course, 1 could be alí four of these dubious<br />
thing and still be a saint. But 1 shonuf ain’t no saint yet,<br />
nawsuh.<br />
TC: Well, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Now let’s<br />
knock it off and try for some shut-eye.<br />
TC: But first let’s sa>’ a prayer. Let’s say our oid<br />
prayer. ‘[he same we used to sa>’ when we were real little<br />
and slept in the same bed with Sook and Queenie, with the<br />
quilts piled on top of us because the house was so big and<br />
cold.<br />
‘[C: Our oíd prayer? Okay.<br />
TC and TC: Now 1 <strong>la</strong>y me down to sleep, 1 pray the<br />
Lord my soul to keep. And if 1 should die before 1 wake, 1<br />
pray the Lord my soul to take. Amen.<br />
