CONCLUSIONPlusieurs facteurs <strong>de</strong> risques sont associés à la gran<strong>de</strong> prématurité dont quelques-uns sont éga<strong>le</strong>mentassociés à la morbidité néonata<strong>le</strong> <strong>de</strong> façon indépendante. Parmi ceux-ci, notons <strong>le</strong>s infections, <strong>le</strong>s retards <strong>de</strong>croissances intra-utérins, <strong>le</strong>s petits poids à la naissance et l’utilisation <strong>de</strong>s corticostéroï<strong>de</strong>s. D’autres facteurscomme la détresse fœta<strong>le</strong> peuvent éga<strong>le</strong>ment être déterminants pour la survie du bébé. Celui qui nousintéresse ici, <strong>le</strong> sexe du bébé né prématurément, n’est pas considéré du point <strong>de</strong> vue <strong>de</strong> l’épidémiologiecomme une cause. Il n’en reste pas moins qu’il semb<strong>le</strong> être associé à la mort périnata<strong>le</strong> et au syndrome <strong>de</strong>détresse respiratoire. La recherche <strong>de</strong>vrait être plus approfondie afin <strong>de</strong> faciliter la surveillance et <strong>le</strong> dépistagepérinatal adéquat. De plus, une meil<strong>le</strong>ure compréhension <strong>de</strong> l’influence du sexe pourrait influencer la pratiquemédica<strong>le</strong> en permettant d’adapter <strong>le</strong>s traitements en fonction <strong>de</strong> celui-ci.23
