NOME COMUNE BARBONE ADRIATICO Descrizione Pianta alta 40-100 cm, provvista <strong>di</strong> due rizotuberi subsferici e numerose ra<strong>di</strong>ci carnose. Scapo eretto, robusto. Foglie tutte cauline, verde chiaro, le inferiori molto larghe, ovato-ellittiche, con nervature più scure ed evidenti, all’antesi in parte <strong>di</strong>sseccate, le superiori eretto-patenti o erette, avvolgenti il fusto e ridotte in <strong>di</strong>mensioni. Infiorescenza densa e allungata con numerosi fiori. Brattee lineari-lanceolate, più lunghe dell’ovario. Fiori inodori, sepali e petali verdastri, venati <strong>di</strong> porpora, i primi <strong>di</strong> forma ovata, i secon<strong>di</strong> più stretti, tutti riuniti a formare un denso casco; labello avvolto a spirale nel boccio, poi leggermente contorto in piena antesi, profondamente trilobato, con lobi laterali filiformi, porporini e margini esterni evidentemente ondulati, lobo me<strong>di</strong>ano porporino o violetto, molto più lungo, nastriforme, all’apice bifido; sperone sacciforme, brevissimo (2-4 mm) rivolto in basso. Habitat Pascoli, praterie, margini stradali, incolti e ambienti ruderali, arbusteti, tra 200 e 1000 m. Periodo <strong>di</strong> fioritura Maggio-giugno. Distribuzione Eurime<strong>di</strong>terranea. In Italia è segnalata in tutte le regioni, tranne Valle d’Aosta, Puglia, Sicilia e Sardegna. Note tassonomiche Il nome del genere deriva dalla caratteristica forma del labello, particolarmente allungato e nastriforme (in greco letteralmente significa “lingua a forma <strong>di</strong> cinghia”) mentre l’aggettivo adriaticum in<strong>di</strong>ca la <strong>di</strong>stribuzione <strong>di</strong> questa specie. È senza dubbio l’orchidea più grande come <strong>di</strong>mensioni generali <strong>della</strong> pianta arrivando anche al metro <strong>di</strong> altezza, spesso formando nuclei <strong>di</strong> alcune decine <strong>di</strong> in<strong>di</strong>vidui, inconfon<strong>di</strong>bili sia per il portamento che per la morfologia fiorale. Secondo alcuni autori il genere Himantoglossum dovrebbe includere anche il genere Barlia; al momento però non ci sono dati sufficienti per una tale riunificazione tanto che in questo testo i due generi vengono presentati e trattati separatamente. Note <strong>di</strong>stributive Himantoglossum adriaticum è una specie abbastanza comune a livello provinciale, essendo nota in 26 quadrati su 52 con un totale <strong>di</strong> 50 segnalazioni. Come per altre specie alcune stazioni si basano su dati bibliografici antichi (Tassi, 1906); ciononostante, trattandosi <strong>di</strong> una entità poco esigente quanto a tipo <strong>di</strong> substrato ed habitat, è altamente probabile che la sua <strong>di</strong>stribuzione sia sottostimata. Si rinviene infatti con una certa facilità ai margini stradali, tra i sassi e le rocce, perfino su vecchi muri a secco con accumulo <strong>di</strong> humus e terriccio tra le fessure.
