Towards the origin of some words in Georgian slang
The article deals with the analysis of several words from Georgian slang
vocabulary which are compared to the data of Russian slang dictionaries
published in Russia and USA. As a result of this comparison several words
of Russian origin present in Georgian slang are revealed. Such as: ambali
“ambali” – a strong, thickset fellow, thug, muscle-man; mandraJi “mandraji”
– fear; ramsebi “ramsebi” – such as in the phrase ramsebi ar agerios
“ramsebi ar agerios”, “do not mix ramsebi”, meaning “do not make
mistakes, do not confuse, be careful”, stosi “stosi” which comes from the
name of card game and is present in the phrase “stosi mihyavs”, “he is leading
the stosi”. This phrase means “he is a leader, controls the situation”;
Cmori “chmori” – a worthless or unpleasant person; dirty person; xaniga
“xaniga” – a drunkard.
