LEVEL B1-B2<br />

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages <strong>de</strong>fines levels B1 to<br />

B2 as those reached by an in<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt user.<br />

B1:<br />

Can un<strong>de</strong>rstand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly<br />

encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.<br />

Can <strong>de</strong>al with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the<br />

language is spoken.<br />

Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.<br />

Can <strong>de</strong>scribe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give<br />

reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.¨<br />

B2:<br />

Can un<strong>de</strong>rstand the main i<strong>de</strong>as of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics,<br />

including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation.<br />

Can interact with a <strong>de</strong>gree of fluency<br />

Vor<strong>au</strong>ssetzungen Level A2 :<br />

Can un<strong>de</strong>rstand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas ofmost<br />

immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family in<strong>formation</strong>,shopping, local<br />

geography, employment).<br />

Can communicate in simple androutine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of<br />

in<strong>formation</strong> on familiar and routine matters.<br />

Can <strong>de</strong>scribe in simple terms aspects of his/herbackground, immediate environment<br />

and matters in areas of immediate need.<br />

Inhalte<br />

The course should provi<strong>de</strong> an opportunity for stu<strong>de</strong>nts from a great variety of<br />

educational backgrounds to either acquire, consolidate or <strong>de</strong>velop the skills of reading,<br />

listening, speaking and writing.<br />

At the end of the course stu<strong>de</strong>nts should be able to successfully achieve tasks ranging<br />

from the basic (such as talking about everyday situations or writing a CV) to the more<br />

complex (such as surviving a job interview or writing and presenting a report).<br />

(aim: level B1-B2)<br />

WRITING: Stu<strong>de</strong>nts will be asked to produce various job related documents (such as a<br />

CV or a business letter) as well as less specific writings of general interest<br />

SPEAKING: Speaking skills will be <strong>de</strong>veloped through role-playing everyday situations<br />

(telephone conversation, job interview, problems in the workplace, etc.) and classroom<br />

presentations and discussions.<br />

COMPREHENSION (WRITING): Stu<strong>de</strong>nts will be asked to read and analyse a variety<br />

of texts. The texts will often focus on issues relating to the media.<br />
