Lubric<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

Consider the following main lubricant characteristics when selecting greases:<br />

• type of thickener<br />

• basic oil<br />

• oper<strong>at</strong>ing temper<strong>at</strong>ures<br />

• drip point<br />

• he<strong>at</strong> resistance<br />

• compression resistance<br />

Lubric<strong>at</strong>ion intervals depend on bearing type, bearing size, and oper<strong>at</strong>ing speed.<br />

Lubric<strong>at</strong>ing the bearing area<br />

The anti-corrosion oil in the roller bearing serves only as an aid during assembly.<br />

Do not <strong>at</strong>tempt to do test runs without sufficient lubricant.<br />

The oper<strong>at</strong>ing conditions are produced to a gre<strong>at</strong> extent by the lubric<strong>at</strong>ing technique and the lubricant manufacturer’s<br />

instructions must be followed.<br />

To determine the amount of initial lubric<strong>at</strong>ion, you may use the Initial Lubricant Amount table, so far as no inform<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

is given for special assembly instructions<br />

It is extremely important th<strong>at</strong> the hub cavities of the roller bearing are always filled with grease, while in contrast the<br />

filling quantity in the housing where the roller bearing is to be installed depends on the r<strong>at</strong>io of the highest oper<strong>at</strong>ing<br />

rev speed n Grease . The minimum rev speeds for each roller bearing are contained in the KRW delivery programme.<br />

For the initial lubric<strong>at</strong>ion, the fill level in the roller bearing must only reach up to lowest rolling element. Higher fill<br />

levels would lead to increased he<strong>at</strong>ing of the roller bearing and to foaming and therefore to prem<strong>at</strong>ure oxid<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

of the lubricant.<br />
