If it is necessary to change the grease type with the next lubrication interval, we strongly recommend to use at least
the same type of thickener.
Oil lubrication
Lubrication of roller bearings is possible with mineral oils which fulfil the minimum requirements according to DIN
57501.
Special applications require synthetic oils whose characteristics are to be discussed and selected with the manufacturer.
Further, certain inhibitors may improve performance characteristics considerably. Oils are characterized by their
kinematic viscosity (measured in mm2/s, nominal viscosity determined at 40°C).
Nominal viscosity and operating viscosity are not identical. The operating viscosity depends on operating temperature
and the specific viscosity characteristics, and is the vital factor in the formation of a sufficient lubricating film.
Viscosity of the lubricating oil applied (or of the basic oil applied in the lubricating grease) is a key factor when calculating
the extended service life and determining maximum speed.
Solid lubrication
A normal grease or oil lubrication is often insufficient in case of high external heat at the bearing position, e. g. with
a furnace platform.
