Āratī viratī pāpā majja-pānā ca saññamo<br />

Appamādo ca dhammesu etam maïgalam uttamaü.<br />

Gāravo ca nivāto ca santuññhī ca kataññutā [26]<br />

Kālena dhammassavanaü etam maïgalam uttamaü.<br />

Khantī ca sovacassatā samaõānañ ca dassanaü<br />

Kālena dhamma-sākacchā etam maïgalam uttamaü.<br />

Tapo ca brahma-cariyañ ca ariya-saccāna-dassanaü<br />

Nibbāna-sacchi-kiriyā ca etam maïgalam uttamaü.<br />

Phuññhassa loka-dhammehi cittaü yassa na kampati<br />

Asokaü virajaü khemaü etam maïgalam uttamaü.<br />

Etādisāni katvāna sabbattham aparājitā<br />

Sabbattha sotthiü gacchanti tan tesaü maïgalam<br />

Avoiding, abstaining from evil; refraining from intoxicants,<br />

Being heedful regarding qualities of the mind: This is the highest good<br />

fortune.<br />

Respect, humility, contentment, gratitude, Hearing<br />

the Dhamma on timely occasions: This is the highest good fortune.<br />

Patience, composure, seeing contemplatives, Discussing<br />

the Dhamma on timely occasions: This is the highest good fortune.<br />

Austerity, celibacy, seeing the Noble Truths,<br />

Realizing Liberation: This is the highest good fortune.<br />

A mind that, when touched by the ways of the world, is unshaken, Sorrowless,<br />

dustless, secure: This is the highest good fortune.<br />

Everywhere undefeated when doing these things, People<br />

go everywhere in well-being: This is their highest good fortune."<br />

Maïgala-suttaü niññhitaü. The Maïgala-sutta ends here.<br />

May they find protection from kings, thieves, human and non-human beings,<br />

from fire and water, from goblins, from stumps and<br />

thorns, from stars, from diseases of the country,<br />

from wrong doctrines, from enemies and unrighteous men,<br />

from fierce elephants, horses, deer, bulls, dogs, serpents, scorpions, green<br />

snakes, leopards, bears, hyenas, pigs,& buffaloes,<br />

from spirits, ogres and so on from different (kinds of) dangers, diseases, and
