From the cessation of processes there is the cessation of (sensory)<br />

consciousness. From the cessation of (sensory) consciousness there is the<br />

cessation of name & form.<br />

From the cessation of name & form there is the cessation of the six sense<br />

media. From the cessation of the six sense media there is the cessation of<br />

contact.<br />

Phassa-nirodhā vedanā-nirodho, From the cessation of contact there is the cessation of feeling.<br />

Vedanā-nirodhā taõhā-nirodho, From the cessation of feeling there is the cessation of craving.<br />

Taõhā-nirodhā upādāna-nirodho, From the cessation of craving there is the cessation of clinging.<br />

Upādāna-nirodhā bhava-nirodho, From the cessation of clinging there is the cessation of becoming.<br />

Bhava-nirodhā jāti-nirodho, From the cessation of becoming there is the cessation of birth.<br />

Jāti-nirodhā jara-maraõaü soka-parideva-dukkhadomanassupāyāsā<br />

nirujjhanti. Evam etassa kevalassa<br />

dukkhakkhandhassa nirodho hoti.<br />

Yadā have pātubhavanti dhammā,<br />

Ātāpino jhāyato brāhmaõassa,<br />

Athassa kaïkhā vapayanti sabbā,<br />

Yato pajānāti sahetu-dhammaü.<br />

[55] Yadā have pātubhavanti dhammā,<br />

Ātāpino jhāyato brāhmaõassa,<br />

Athassa kaïkhā vapayanti sabbā,<br />

Yato khayaü paccayānaü avedi.<br />

From the cessation of birth, then aging & death, sorrow, lamentation, pain,<br />

distress, & despair all cease. Thus is the cessation of this entire mass of<br />

suffering & stress.<br />
