AirPort/Bluetooth: Defective Wireless Devices<br />

Unlikely c<strong>au</strong>se: power adapter, battery, speakers, optical drive, hard drive, fan, camera,<br />

microphone, top case<br />

C<strong>au</strong>tion: When testing an AirPort/Bluetooth card connections, wait at least 5 seconds after<br />

shutdown before touching the AirPort/Bluetooth flex cable connections to card and to the<br />

logic board .Waiting less before touching could damage the AirPort/Bluetooth card.<br />

1. Open System Preferences and make sure AirPort<br />

or Bluetooth is turned on and (for AirPort) that a<br />

network is selected.<br />

2. Ensure available software and firmware updates<br />

have been applied.<br />

3. Reset PRAM<br />

4. (AirPort) Using System <strong>Pro</strong>filer,/AirPort channel list,<br />

check that installed AirPort card model supports<br />

the Base Station channel.<br />

5. (AirPort) Check that base station is not using<br />

unsupported connection or encryption protocols.<br />

6. (AirPort) Check for nearby interference sources<br />

such as microwave ovens or cordless phones<br />

7. (AirPort) Check the number of users trying to<br />

use AirPort in the area for possible network<br />

congestion.<br />

8. (Bluetooth) Test with known-good Bluetooth<br />

device.<br />

9. Isolate OS by booting from original install<br />

media (10.6.x). Attempt to connect to base<br />

station (AirPort) or pair with wireless keyboard<br />

(Bluetooth)..<br />
